How to Create a PDF
A PDF lets other people read your document without needing the same editing application. Start with text, pictures, a Word document or files on your phone. Choose the method that matches your content and layout needs.
This guide covers four practical routes. FileSimplifier PDF Maker is useful for straightforward text with optional image pages. JPG to PDF works well for photographs and scans. Word can export its own documents, while phone printing and sharing menus can save many supported items as PDFs. Keep your original editable files as well as the finished PDF.
Create a new PDF with PDF Maker
For a short document that does not need a complicated layout, start with the free PDF Maker. It creates A4 pages from an optional title, body text and images. Text wraps automatically, and images are placed on their own pages after the written content. Generation happens in your browser, so your text and selected pictures are not uploaded.
Use # for a heading, ## for a smaller heading, or double asterisks around an entire line for bold text. These controls are not a full word processor.
- Open PDF Maker and enter a clear document title. Paste or type the body text, keeping separate paragraphs on separate lines with blank lines between them.
- Add headings where the topic changes. Use the supported line markers and check that your text uses Latin characters; emoji and other scripts are not supported by the standard font.
- Choose optional JPG, PNG or WebP images. Move the image rows up or down until their sequence is correct, and remove any pictures you do not want included.
- Press Generate PDF and review the page list. Text comes first, followed by one page per image. Make any changes and generate again to replace the earlier result.
- Download the PDF and open it in a PDF reader. Check the page count, spelling, paragraph breaks and image order before sending it to someone else.
Create a PDF from JPG and other images
Open JPG to PDF · Convert HEIC photos
A group of photographs or scanned pages is often easier to share as one PDF than as separate image attachments. Open JPG to PDF and select JPG, PNG or WebP images. Arrange the files in the order you want readers to see them. Each picture becomes a page, so the image list is also your document sequence.
Choose A4 or Letter for consistent paper sizes, or fit-to-image to match picture dimensions. Set the orientation, then create and download the PDF. Inspect it at a normal reading size: conversion cannot fix a blurry scan.
An image-based PDF is not the same as a searchable text document. These tools place the original pictures on pages and do not perform optical character recognition. If you need selectable words from a photographed form, use an OCR-capable application separately. For HEIC photos, make JPG copies with HEIC to JPG before adding them.
Export a PDF from a Word document
When your content is already in Microsoft Word, export from Word rather than copying everything into another tool. On many desktop versions, File followed by Save As or Export offers PDF as a format. Choose the destination and confirm the PDF option before saving. The exact labels depend on your Word version and operating system.
In Word for the web, look for the PDF download or export option in the File menu. This method is generally better for tables, headers, footers and carefully arranged text because Word already understands its own document layout. FileSimplifier does not currently include a Word-to-PDF converter, and the PDF Maker is not a substitute for importing a DOCX file.
Check the exported page breaks, fonts and images. Correct problems in Word and export again. Keep the Word file for future edits.
Save a PDF on your phone
On iPhone or iPad, many apps provide a Print action in the share menu. Where the print preview supports it, expand the preview to open a PDF and use Share to save it to Files. Some apps have a direct PDF export option instead. Available actions vary by application, so check the specific document or webpage you are saving.
On Android, supported apps often offer Print from a menu or sharing option. Choose Save as PDF as the printer, check the selected pages and paper settings, then save the file to a location you can find again. Not every app exposes printing; in that case, use its own export option or open the content in a compatible app.
PDF Maker and JPG to PDF also work in modern phone browsers. Keep the tab open until generation finishes. Try fewer images if your phone runs out of memory.
Combine and check your finished PDF
If you created a cover note and a separate image document, open Combine PDF to join them. Add the existing PDF files, place them in the right sequence and download the combined document. If you only need selected pages from a larger file, use Extract PDF Pages instead of sending the entire original.
Open the final download before sharing. Check the title, page order and visible information; exclude private material. These tools are not secure redaction services. Retain your original source files.
Frequently asked questions
What is the easiest way to create a PDF from text?
For a simple document, use PDF Maker: add a title and body, generate the pages and download. If you need complex formatting, create the document in a word processor and export it as PDF.
Can I turn photos into a single PDF?
Yes. JPG to PDF accepts multiple JPG, PNG or WebP images. Reorder them, choose a page layout and generate one PDF containing the pictures in the selected sequence.
Can I create a PDF without paying or registering?
The current FileSimplifier PDF creation tools are free and do not require an account. They run in your browser; the practical document size depends on your device memory.
Does creating a PDF make scanned text searchable?
No. Putting an image into a PDF does not recognize its words. Searchable text requires OCR, which these creation tools do not provide. Typed text in PDF Maker is selectable.
How do I combine my new PDF with another document?
Use Combine PDF to join existing PDFs in the order you choose. Download the combined file and check it in a PDF reader before deleting originals or sending it to someone else.
